Apple Acknowledges Video Problems in the New MacBooks
Apple has acknowledged that there are two video problems with both the new MacBook and the MacBook Pros. This has proved a good thing, since they are working on fixing both concerns and will be releasing a fix pretty soon. But, many people are still saying if the "fix" shows the the same or similar problems to even the slightest degree, they just may have the entire machine shipped back and refunded until Apple truly fixes the problems.
The main concern is the black screen of death, which happens when the graphic card goes into overload when playing video games, which turns off the video and locks up the system, while the audio goes into a loop. This is apparently a thermal issue, but Apple hasn't decide if it's a hardware or software problem.
According the teh Apple spokesman:
More than likely the concern is thermal related, but at the same time many people are still getting screen distortion when waking the MacBook from sleep mode. And, the fans will run at 6,000 rmp while playing video games, which, to me, says it's probably a hardware issue.
Another reason why I think that it's a hardware issue rather than software is because the problem happens in both Windows and Mac OS X.
The second video concern is the lesser concern, but many people claim that it is noticeable in most stystems even for the display at the Apple retail stores. Basically, when scrolling a website with HD video on it, there will be a wave-like distortion affecting the video. Apple is aware of this problem, as well and are working on a software patch to solve the problem.
Where the second video problem with the MacBook is a slighly more minor problem, the first problem will pop up when playing more in-depth games like Call of Duty 4, WOW, and Ages of Empire III.

Apple are aware of the issue and are investigating. At present we do not know if this is a hardware or software issue and have been advised not to offer customers exchanges until the issue is better understood.
