Electronic Reading Devices: End of Paper Books?

I feel that we are slowly furthering outselves into the age of technology, as companies are attempting to wean out regular paper books by created reading devices that allow you to purchase and upload your favorite books and new releases to read on a handheld device.

These devices are of course electronic and can potentionally serve a few complications, in my opinion, as the reader must spend hours reading on a LCD screen. Now, although most are created without a backlight and read off of the surrounding light in the area, I still see eye problems rising as more and more people begin to purchase these wireless devices.

The Amazon Kindle is probably the newest and most innovative reading device on the market today. They are priced at about $350, but you will probably want to purchase a spare memory card, a travel charger, and a carrying case to protect your new gadget. As you see these devices aren't cheap, but you may find the books for sale a little cheaper and your daily paper easier to read, but it's up to you to figure out if the price is really worth it.

Most of these devices do not need to sync up to your computer to charge or upload your favorite books, but that's just one small innovation in my book.

I think these electronic devices take the fun out of old fashioned reading. I mean the Kindle allows you to search Wikipedia to look up words and Amazon's online store. That's great, but reading your favorite newspaper or magazine will never be the same.

Personallly, I find that it's going to take time to completely wean out regular reading books, but sadly I think one day books will be rare amongst the sea of electronic books and reading devices.

What do you think?
