New HTC EVO 4G Complaints

June 23rd 2010 20:35
Category: Mobile Phones
So unfortunately, I'm a stubborn person and wanted the phone before it came out. My boyfriend didn't care for the phone much, and planned to keep his Palm Pre. Well, his buddy got the phone before I could, which made my boyfriend want the phone. He got the last one that Best Buy had. I was highly upset because he didn't want it until his friend did, and no matter how childish it was and how hard I tried not to get upset, it happened. (And, yes, It's a problem that I'm working on; after I got so upset, I tried to tell him it was ok and he could keep it, but he's stubborn too.)

Today, he changed the phone from his line to mine, and I have the new HTC EVO with Sprint.

My first complaints with the phone are as follows:

1. Typing is a pain. Although, it's a lot simpler than the HTC Hero, as the buttons are larger, it's still not a QWERTY keyboard. I constantly go to use 'M' and push the numbers button, or go to push 'L' and hit the backspace. When you put the phone landscape, typing is easier, but the spell check sucks; before you know it, your words are all changed. You really have to watch typing closely.

2. The QIK video chat is basically a really bad web cam that is very pixely and slow to catch up to movements. It's hard to get the phone and your face positioned just right. My boyfriend's friend was basically a big nose in my screen, and I was merely a forehead in his. It was funny. I thought that I appeared fine because in the box that showed how I look, I was seeing my full head, but it wasn't coming across that way on the other phone. Just make sure that in the marketplace, you decide to install the free QIK for HTC 4G; this will override the pre-installed Qik program,

3. I can't find the alarm. I will take more searching to find one or I'll have to install one. (Update: I just found the alarm; I will update again if it doesn't work, as having a good alarm is important for me to have in a cell phone.)

4. I can't get email addresses to verify unless they're main email addresses, like gmail or Yahoo. I tried to get my school email to verify, and it just wouldn't work, and neither would an email that I have with a personal website (goreptiles.com)

5. The apps are all in alphabetical order. You can't move them around into categories. This was a big issue I had with the iPhones, but the newest update for iPhones is the ability to have categories, which is awesome. Maybe this will come to HTC soon.

Other than that, I do not have any complaints, although I am still getting used to the phone and learning how to work it. So far, I'm loving the phone, and do not have nearly as many complaints about it as the first few days after buying the Palm Pre last year.

Edit: I can't seem to forward text messages or copy/paste text. (figured it out)
