New Scanners at Airports

Assuming that you've heard of the problem with nipple rings and guards at the airport having women undress, you may or may not have heard of the new scanner that is being used at various airports.

These scanners can see through your clothes in order to reveal all the details of what's underneath.

Ten of these scanners will be installed in varioud US airports, such as in Washington (Reagan National and Baltimore-Washington International), Dallas, Las Vegas, Albuquerque, Miami, and Detroit.

In a way these scanners will prevent the embarassment and the potential lawsuit of having to undress in front of guards and other passengers, but in a way they are very involved, so to speak, and disregards privacy.

Passengers can opt not to use these new scanners and use the traditional body imaging and pat-downs, but it's one or the other.

Once the image is on the screen, it is automatically discarded after the person leaves the stand. Guards cannot print, save, or upload the pictures.

In a way these new scanners can be good to potentially stop terrorists, but I find that it serves a few problems. One, since passengers can opt not to have the scan and choose the traditional versions, one could still figure ou a way to bring "illegal" items onto a plane. Two, they completely disregard privacy for those good citizens, especially when one day the scanners are the only option.

What do you think?
