There are many different kinds and types of portable laptop keyboards, but generally, you'll find that they come in silicone that rolls up or plastic that folds in half. Both are good options, but most reviews claim that even the best portable keyboards require you to take a little more time typing, as the keys are a little smaller and more sensitive.
The portable keyboards that fold in half, don't fold flat in half, but they do fold mostly in half, which does save a lot of space, and they can leave a slight bend in the keyboard when typing, which can get irritating, but for a temporary keyboard, it's a great solution.
Portable keyboards for computers have been in movies and really are used a good deal in businesses because of their portability and ease of use, but the main problem is that they aren't the best option for people who type fast.
Depending on what you're looking for, you should not have any problems finding a simple portable keyboard for your laptop, especially if you ONLY use it for temporary uses and not as a staple, main keyboard for your computer.
