Blackberry App World

The Apple App Store has stirred RIM into creating their own application store for Blackberry. And with the new Blackberry Storm, it will just make the touch screen blackberry that much more appealing to customers and a bigger threat to the iPhone.
But, how is it?
Well, you'll quickly find that the Blackberry App World is more expensive than the iPhone App Store, where the cheapest iPhone application is $0.99, the cheapest Blackberry application is $2.99.
The Blackberry App World is a convenient place to funnel the Blackberry platform to a vast variety of program and software developers. There are already a few hundred applications in the store, which is pretty good. Some are free, so don't worry too much about that change. I mean, Blackberry already offered the Facebook and Myspace app for free, so they didn't add a charge for some apps with the introduction of the App World.
You'll find that Blackberry offers a rating system on the apps, so that you can judge which ones may be better than others. You'll see the rating on a scale of 5 stars.
The icons are about the same as the iPhone App Store, but you'll find that you have to scroll a little more with App World. At least you are able to pick a category and scroll through that category of applications, without having to scroll through apps that you have no interest in at the moment.
As for how you'll pay for your new apps via App World, you'll have to link your Blackberry to a PayPal account. When you download the free applications, all you have to do is click and they install. You'll encounter the same OK/Run confirmation when the installation is complete.
Some of the applications are going to take a little longer than others, but most of them will have a download time of less than a minute, which isn't too bad. The download time will all depend in the size of the application.
Some of the bugs that RIM will have to work out include:
* Some of the applications require that you restart your Blackberry to fully install or update to a newer version.
* Not all of the popular applications are currently available.
* The layout and overall style isn't the most appealing.
* There isn't a desktop version of the App World, which would make some downloads easier.
* Payment isn't the easiest.
