Simplicity of the Webcam
I've always been rather fascinated by webcams and being able to see the person you're chatting with online. If you think about it, they're a great way to talk to your loved ones when you're separated, either on active duty, business trips, or whatever, and anyone who can work a computer and internet can use them.
Although, many newer computers are built with webcams installed, companies like Microsoft, Logitech, and Creative Labs, still manufacture some of the top of the line webcams for laptops and computers.
Programs that you can use most webcams with: (exact programs will vary)
* Windows Live Messenger
* Yahoo! Messenger
* Skype
* AOL Instant Messenger
* Logitech Video Call
* SightSpeed
* iChat
Most current webcams work with both Windows XP and Windows Vista, so whichever version you have installed on your computer, you should be good. Most of them also opporate on both PC and Mac.
Usually, with Logitech webcams, you receive downloads so that you can create cool backgrounds, add images, and use filters to add photographic effects.
Most webcams will take still shots as well as record video.
The webcams of today have greatly improved since they were initially manufactured. Now, you get a crisp, clear picture, automatic autofocus for moving around the room, and noise cancelling services to block out outside noises.

Ok maybe the simplicity of the webcam will be what sinks the deal. There's not a lot of downloading involved in initially working your webcam. Most webcams just plug into your USB port and that's it. If you don't plan on using the webcam with one of the above services, you may need a special software to publish the webcam to the web, but if you're just using it for chatting on AIM, Skype, etc, then you just need to plug it in to the USB drive.
Ok how about now?
What do you think? Have you used a webcam? What do/did you think about it?
